Tourmaline Peridot mobile earrings kinetic works of art
Tourmaline Peridot mobile earrings custom made for one of our most adventurous customers. She always is looking for something exciting and different. I've always liked mobiles, and it really made me happy to get a chance to make these earrings and put my design skills to the test. These earrings dangle, twist and sway, as they are worn. I am sending them along with a smaller pair that can be mixed with the longer ones or worn as a separate pair. We are also considering having them dangle in front of the ear from a cuff. The Tourmaline Peridot mobile earrings were first hand carved in wax, cast and hand finished in 14K. I found some nice tourmaline slices that range in size from about 10mm in size to about 15mm. The shapes of the slices gave me ideas for the design of their settings, crystalline shaped frames of gold. I suspended the slices within their frames with extended prongs to better show the tourmalines from all angles. The suspended settings created an interesting dynamic tension between the forms. I then set small peridot cabs in bezel settings that either grew out of the tourmaline's frames or dangled as drops. The earrings turned out more beautiful than we could have imagined.
