Viking jewelry designs:

Viking jewelry and design is a long time favorite of ours. We will be adding more of our Viking jewelry soon. The designs the Vikings left us is a real treasure that we can all enjoy. Those designs still influence modern artists like Suzan and me.

I got a special Viking wedding ring order from a couple in Texas several years ago. They got in touch because the jewelers in their area had no idea what gripping beast Viking designs were. I was quite familiar with the gripping beast designs from Celtic art work like the Book of Kells. That helped, but I still had to dig through my materials to find a design that would work. I found the perfect design in the carvings on the famous Oslo Viking ship. Following the carvings on the ship, was like being a needle following the grooves in a record. I began to imagine that I could understand the thoughts and motivations of the original artists. The gripping beasts that decorate the prow and stern of the beautiful long boat are very busy. They seemed to come to life swimming through each other to make a chain of strange living creatures. I sometimes feel that I can hear the rhythm and flow of a design as if it was music. The designs on these rings are good examples of pieces that seem like music as I follow them. Some of the designs seem light hearted and entertaining. Some of the other designs seem to be meant to scare off the creatures of the mysterious ocean.

Viking Art

We have some old books where true Viking art is mixed in with the art of the Irish and other cultures that they had raided. Sometimes the art from Ireland is credited to the Vikings. Our understanding of their art is constantly evolving. New discoveries seem to come almost every day. The new interest in Viking art has enabled us to better understand and appreciate their art.Ā  We are inspired to try to enter their creative world and to understand a bit more about ourselves. Please see our Face Book photos for some of our viking and other designs.Ā  https://www.facebook.com/Postgate-Fine-Jewelers-111540785537658/photos/?view_public_for=111540785537658&ref=page_internal
