Story jewelry by Postgate, creating jewelry to tell stories is one of the most fascinating aspects of some of the most important and interesting jewelry that we get to make. Jewelry can tell dark tales like the tale of the cursed opal in an Agatha Christie mystery. That tale still keeps people not born in October, to avoid this beautiful gem. Another story shown in a necklace that was made by George in the 80's, depicts a maiden playing her harp in the forest amid trees and flowers. We’ve also created pieces like a family bracelet that depicts memorable scenes from a families life. One of my favorites shows a family’s special memories in its scenes. My favorite shows the parents arranging presents under their Christmas tree. They are unaware that their children are spying on them from a doorway. I made the scene look like their living room complete with fireplace and hanging stockings. Our customer had sent us a photograph of their living room decked out for Christmas. I used the photo to create the scene in the bracelet. The father who commissioned the bracelet had also sent me a beautiful letter describing the moments that he wanted included. I also transcribed the family’s stories into a hand made book that doubles as the bracelet’s box. I copied his recollections into the book’s pages in calligraphy and illustrated his stories with paintings showing the scenes.
