Celtic rutilated quartz ring, La Tene style size 6 1/2
Celtic rutilated quartz ring: The La Tene style, is one of the most distinctive of the many sophisticated styles that the ancient Celts invented. I created this ring's design based on the La Tene tradition, I hope to make more new pieces based on La Tene art in the future. Celtic rutilated quartz ring, La Tene style, Details:
This ring is made of the deepest rose 14K gold that is available to me. The stone is a large round cabochon of rutilated quartz with a beautiful pattern of rutile within. This is one of the most beautiful pieces I've seen. There are a couple almost unnoticeable naturals, or small patches of the original surface of the stone, that you can see if you are looking for them. These were probably left by the stone cutter rather taking a chance of chance pulling one of the hairs and creating more of a defect than was there was originally.
Rutilated quartz is often one of the first stones that captures the hearts of new rock hounds. It is actually a bit harder than you might think to find pieces that are beautiful enough to use in fine jewelry. Rutile is an interesting crystal that forms within several different gemstones. In some stones like sapphire, the rutile needles are often so small that they are almost impossible to see. In sapphires, if all is just right, the rutile creates a star.
I often tell people that the crystal needles in rutilated quartz are actually the hair of an ancient princess who had been encased in rock crystal by an evil wizard. After she was rescued by a good wizard, some of her hair still remained within the rock that had been her prison. Those stones are incredibly rare and they can be made into beautiful jewelry. No one has believed me about the princess so far but I have had fun trying. Oh if you want to use that for a story please send royalties...
FaceBook:
We have a wide selection of our work on FaceBook. Some pieces are shown in various stages of completion. When we do a special piece for a customer we often send them image of waxes. This makes it easier for them to understand what we are doing. It also allows us to work together and insure the creation of something special: https://www.facebook.com/Postgate-Fine-Jewelers-111540785537658/photos/?view_public_for=111540785537658
