I recently finished the Celtic lion sapphire ring for a customer named Timothy who wanted a very special engagement ring for his fiance. He wanted a ring that featured two lions in its design. A large, very fine sapphire, would be its center stone. The sapphire is a very fine, faceted oval. color change sapphire. The stone can change from a beautiful deep blue, to a perfect amethyst purple in color. The stone is amazing! I had been imagining that stone in the center of a ring that I would make for myself, sigh.

Deciding upon the design

I suggested that Timothy invite his fiance to be part of design process. I asked my him to look through our designs to see if he, and his wife to be, liked any of the rings that I’ve made in the past. Here is a link, if you would like to see some of the designs that they looked at as we were working out the design: https://postgatejewelers.com/shop/bands-wedding-rings/

I also suggested that they look at our Facebook posts. Facebook has become a great platform for us to give people a good idea of how we work with our customers to make sure that they can provide us with feedback as their piece is transformed from wax into their new treasure. Creating the Celtic Lion sapphire ring:

After looking through many of my designs, they found a ring that delighted them. The piece that they liked best was a ring that I made for a young Scottish couple many years ago. The couple had asked for a ring with a Celtic zoomorphic cats design. I really liked that ring, and I’ve made a few versions of it since then. Here are a couple of the images of the version that they liked the best. This ring had been set with an orange garnet and two amethysts. Four Celtic cats lace themselves around the garnet with two emerging on each side holding the amethysts in their teeth.

Celtic Lion sapphire ring Details:

The Celtic Lion sapphire ring was first made in wax. This is a very ancient process. I have a page that explains how the wax is made and how it becomes metal along with several images if you would like to know more about the process https://postgatejewelers.com/waxes/

Design:

The ring’s design is based upon ancient zoomorphic Celtic art.
Two Lions make up each side of the setting, one is a male and the other a lioness. Their limbs intertwine and become an abstract design that forms the sides of the ring.

Details Celtic Lion sapphire ring:

The ring is made in 18K yellow gold, it is set with a natural sapphire that has a weight of approximately 4.75 cts. The sapphire is an oval faceted stone that is 10.3mm X 8mm in size by 5.9mm in depth. The stone has a strong color change that ranges from a saturated blue to a fine amethyst purple under different light sources. The stone
