Grapevine band highly detailed in 14K gold, made and designed by George Postgate. Size 7  https://postgatejewelers.com/new-grapevine-band-in-14k-gold-by-george/

Grapevine band highly detailed in 14K, This band came about as a result of a customer named Lorre who got in touch with me about a vine themed gold band that she was interested in. Lorre liked a golden vine band of mine and wanted to know if I had made any other  bands with vine motifs. I sent her an image of one of my grapevine bands and she liked it as much as the original vine band. I love the challenge of designing plant themed pieces and I've wanted to do a really 3D version of a grapevine band for a few years.

Grapevine designs:

I’ve made several grapevine bands, and I've wanted to do one that was more 3D and irregular in shape. I suggested to Lorre that I make a band that combined the best of both bands and be more dimensional.  I just hadn’t been able to justify the time that such a project would require. Lorrie’s order gave me the opportunity that I needed. Orders like this are a great pleasure, and I am very grateful to Lorre for giving me the opportunity. Grapevine band highly detailed version in 14K: details:

I carved the new grapevine band, by hand. Grapevine pieces are a longtime favorite theme of ours. We love making flowing beautiful compositions of vines leaves and a few bunches of grapes. Many of our customers love grapes, vines, and wine. If you love jewelry inspired by nature, Please check out some of our favorites here: https://postgatejewelers.com/product-category/flowers-vines-and-animal-jewelry/The result is a beautifully detailed and three dimensional work of art for the finger, in hand carved 14K gold.

My new grapevine  band gets wider on top and tapers to a fairly normal width band at its bottom. This shape brings the band back on the hand a bit. This makes the wearer’s finger appear longer with the band on than it does without a ring on it. Being narrower under the finger makes the ring much more comfortable.

This band is solid 14K gold and is a size 7. It is about 10mm on its top, tapering to about 6mm under the finger. A few thick grapevines make up the sides of the band. The vines cross each other at different points and there are smaller vines growing out of the larger ones. This gives the ring a natural feeling structure. Three clusters of grapes can be seen through the vines and leaves that fill out the band’s details. Numerous other features like knot holes, increase the natural feeling of the band.

Grapevine band highly detailed version in 14K: The wax:

I often use multiple colors of wax when I make an original wax, to make the wax model easier to “read.” If I can find the right wax, in the right colors, I can sometimes mimic the colors of nature. This makes it more fun for the customer when I send them images, and its fun for me as well. The original model was “built up” in a technique that is similar to painting. Wax hardens as it cools and can be “Painted” in three dimensions with a special tool to “build up” a nicely detailed original model. The model is carved after having been built up, to give it more, and finer, details. Finally, the wax is cast in 14K Gold. Now in gold, the ring’s details are refined and other textures are applied.
