I used the original carvings on the Oslo Viking long boat as a guide for my Viking gripping beast band design. The center design of this ring is sculpted in wax and cast in 18 K gold. 14 D palladium white gold forms the borders.

Viking Gripping beast band, Variations:

There are several versions of the Viking Gripping beast band. I’ve added some images of the band with a rose gold center along with one of our woman’s rings set with an emerald center stone. I designed the woman’s ring with a protective border around the stone to give it some protection since emeralds are sometimes fragile. due to inclusions etc. Follow this link to see more of our Viking jewelry: https://postgatejewelers.com/viking-jewelry/

FaceBook:

We have a wide selection of our work on FaceBook. Some pieces are shown in various stages of completion. When we do a special piece for a customer we often send them image of waxes. This makes it easier for them to understand what we are doing. It also allows us to work together and insure the creation of something special: https://www.facebook.com/Postgate-Fine-Jewelers-111540785537658/photos/?view_public_for=111540785537658

Viking gripping beast band, The long boat, a wee bit of history:

The ship was found in a farmer’s field in 1880. The ship had been used for the burial of someone who was obviously very important. Twelve horses and six dogs were among the contents of the ship when it was buried. The ship was 76’ long by 17’ wide with a 40’ mast. It had 16 oars on each side. This type of ship was used to transport up to 70 persons or 16 tons of cargo. It was also very effective in warfare as it could navigate very shallow waters.

I liked the designs on the ship because they are distinctly Viking. The raw power and belief in the gods of old are still within them.  The original carvings are not nearly as perfect as later ones that were made to fill in places where the originals had disappeared. In the original carvings the beasts in have darker personalities. The old designs are also less predictable.
